to kill a mockingbird school assignment

In Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird," the reader follows a young Scout Finch through her perspective as a young girl, and her various adventures and experiences growing up along with her older brother Jem. Throughout the story, the two frequently butt heads. However, in spite of their various arguements and disagreements, I believe that they remain very close friends.

Jem and Scout grow up together in the small town of Maycomb County. They play many games together, such as when they act out what they believe the Radley family's life was like, and hang out often, until Jem grows older and wants to be more grown up and mature. He doesn't want to be seen playing with a girl, and gets frustrated more often. He changes so much, that the two argue much more often, and do less things together.

Although all of that was the case, Jem does start being kinder to Scout again. When their Aunt Alexandra forbids Scout from inviting her friend Walter Cunningham to her house, calling him "trash," and saying that Scout is "enought of a problem to (her) father as it is," leading Scout to run away sobbing. Jem comforts her through her tears, and even gives her a Tootsie Roll. When nobody else can take her, Jem escorts Scout to the halloween pageant and helps her with her ham costume, despite his own not wanting to go in the first place. When Bob Ewell attempts to attack and kill Scout, Jem fights him off, and even puts up a good fight against him, getting his own arm broken in the process.

While it is true that the two kids have had many arguements throughout their growing years, and did not always see eye-to-eye, as they have gotten older, their relationship has gotten stronger, with them both becoming yet again good friends.
