Anne Frank and Hope

It's the 1940s, and World War II is raging on. Hitler has sent the Nazis to various countries. Their purpose? To murder millions of Jews and anyone they deem "lesser" than themselves. Among the countries invaded are the Netherlands, the home of a  Jewish girl named Anne Frank, and her mother, father, and sister. Anne writes about the tragedy, which would be known as the Holocaust, as it goes on in her diary. Her diary, after being published, would proceed to become the second most read nonfiction book of all time. Despite the trememdous stress of her possible capture, over the next few years she almost persevered by having hope.

Since the Franks were Jewish, and Anne's sister was to be sent to a forced labor camp, the family went into hiding in a house with a secret passage to an area known as the Secret Annex. They were not alone in the Annex, hiding along with Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan, their son Peter Van Daan, and Mr Dussel, a dentist. They stayed in hiding for so long with the help of Mr. Kraler and Miep Gies, who would get supplies for the families. The situation was terrifying, but they needed to hold on to hope, even when it seemed impossible.

They even passed faith on to others, such as Anne to Peter when they would chat in Peter's room; and when Miep brought everyone out of a foul mood by informing them that the Allies, the enemies of the Nazis, were invading to stop Hitler, and end the war.

Even when all the odds were against her, Anne never stopped believing that people all have good in them. As she said, "In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart."

Anne never gave up hope that one day she would be able to be among her friends again, and because of that, she survived in the Annex for all of those years.
